Consumer Products Inventions
In order to meet domestic demands of the general public, Australian
inventors also developed some of the most renowned inventions of
everyday use known today. Some of us even use the said inventions
ourselves.
For example, the Hills Hoist, a rotary washing line, is used by
people everyday. Invented originally by Gilbert Toyne in Geelong in
1912, it was later developed by Lance Hill and was marketed under the
name of the Hills Hoist. The patented the winding mechanism was later
added in 1956.
A tool common in our toolboxes, The Electric Drill, a device that uses
electricity and a fast rotation drill used to make holes was patented by
Melbourne inventor Arthur James in 1889. Millions of people use this
drill in homes today.
Dirty shoes? The famous invention of Kiwi Shoe Polish also originated
from Australia. It was invented William Ramsay with his partner Hamilton
McKellan in 1904 and launched as 'Kiwi' in 1906, this is the knows as
the world’s best shoe polish even today.
The Two Stroke Lawn Mower , used to cut grass efficiently and quickly,
was developed in Australia in 1930. Had the Australians not invented
these devices, would we still have them today?
