Queensland Government

The Queensland Government is proud to be associated with Ideas at the Powerhouse, an exciting forum which promises to enlight, inspire and most importantly, entertain people with innovative and prolific ideas on various social, economic and environmental issues.

By creating this "think tank" event, Queenslanders will have the opportunity for the first time to be exposed to a plethora of new ideas and different ways of thinking about particular issues. It is anticipated that this unique event, the first of its kind in Queensland, will promote innovative thought, passionate debates and a collective desire to learn more outside the boundaries of our everyday lives.

The Ideas at the Powerhouse is part of an exciting year for Queensland, as we prepare to host the Goodwill Games and the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), along with the state wide Centenary of Federation celebrations. The Ideas at the Powerhouse will work with these other events to position Queensland as an exciting and innovative destination on both the national and world stage.

The International Year of Volunteers 2001 (IYV) is a United Nations initiative that provides a unique opportunity for individuals and organisations around the world to promote and celebrate volunteers and volunteering.

IYV aims to be inclusive, celebrating and promoting volunteering and active citizenship in all its diverse forms by:

  • Supporting Queensland communities in their engagement in valuable and productive voluntary activities

The Queensland Government is committed to promoting the valuable contribution of volunteers in the International Year with benefits to the community that last beyond 2001. Through the International Year of Volunteers Secretariat, the Queensland Government is delighted to bring Dr Kenn Allen to the Ideas at the Powerhouse Festival to present a keynote address on volunteering as a major social movement and the global response to the International Year of Volunteers 2001.
